If there is preference for crop insurance to deal with distress situations, the government should evolve a mechanism for the provision of a diversified set of crop insurance products by a diverse set of insurer firms. Farmers with 12 Acres or less of area inclusive of all crops may be provided a substantial subsidy on the premium while larger farmers are required to pay commercial rates for coverage.
